Latino Studies is a community, united in learning about diverse Latinx experiences through exciting programming and a multidisciplinary curriculum. Courses in History, Literary and Cultural Studies, Folklore and Ethnomusicology, Theatre and Performance, Education, and Psychology will help you study the evolution of Latinx/a/o ethnicity and identity, while investigating important issues like the intersection of Black and Latinx identities, Latinx representation in film and media, election politics, the history of U.S. imperialism, immigration, the U.S. borderlands as cultural contact zones, and contested and militarized spaces of state-sanctioned violence.
We work closely with La Casa, the Latino Cultural Center for the IU Bloomington campus. La Casa often hosts events, talks, and seasonal celebrations for the campus community, including events for Hispanic Heritage Month.
