Latino Studies is a fast-growing, dynamic field of study that continues expanding each year. Recent immigration debates, a burgeoning labor and civil rights movement, and the growing presence of Latinxs in all regions of the country bring urgency and relevance to the study of Latinx communities. Our Latino Studies minor complements many majors and is an excellent choice for any student who wants to broaden their knowledge about the Latinx populations of the United States.
Latino Studies courses introduce students to the nation’s diverse, growing Latinx populations, including their histories, cultures, social conditions, and aspirations. You’ll examine contemporary and historical issues from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, including anthropology, education, gender studies, language, law, literature, media, music, sociology, and more. Our faculty are experts in diverse topics affecting Latinxs including issues of race, immigration, citizenship, voting rights, Afro-Latinidad, performance, and aesthetics. We also encourage engagement with the larger community through collaborative projects, civic programs, and service-learning.
