Latino Studies Program Dissertation Year Fellowship, 2023-2024
The Latino Studies Program is accepting applications for a Dissertation Fellowship for 2024-2025. The fellowship includes a stipend of $22,000 and student health insurance coverage. It does not include a fee remission. The award will enable a doctoral candidate to engage in focused work leading to the completion of a Ph.D. dissertation.
Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral degree within the College of Arts & Sciences and must be formally advanced to candidacy by December 2023. Preference will be given to projects that enrich knowledge about Latino populations residing in the United States, however projects involving transnational (US-Latin American) populations or comparative frameworks are also acceptable. During the fellowship year, the student is expected to devote themselves full time to dissertation work and to participate in the Latino Studies Program's scholarly activities in Bloomington. At the end of the fellowship, the recipient will deliver a talk sharing their work.

Luis Davilá Student Competition for Best Essay
The award for the Luis Davilá Student Competition for Best Essay on Latinx Literature, Arts, and Culture recognizes the best essay on any aspect of Latinx expressive culture, including literature, language, history, music, folklore, visual and performing arts, cinema, and journalism.
Requirements:
- Submissions may be in English, Spanish, Portuguese, or any combination of these languages
- Graduate essays should be no more than 5,000 words in length.
The submission deadline for 2023 is April 7, 2023.
LATS Graduate Student Research Award
The Latino Studies Program is pleased to announce the Graduate Student Research Award for short-term projects. LATS will award a limited number of awards of up to $500 to support graduate students conducting research on US-Latinx populations and cultures, as well as transnational Latinx communities.
Preference will be given to LATS graduate minors and graduate students who are actively involved with the program. Funds should be used to enhance the research and pedagogical mission of Latino Studies. These will be dispersed in the spring 2023 and credited to the student’s Bursar account. In order to receive the award, students must be enrolled in at least 6 hours during the academic year and 3 hours during the summer.
Applications will be accepted until April 14 at 5 pm.
