A vibrant research community

In its interdisciplinary collaboration, Latino Studies combines the best that IU has to offer. Our courses pair rigorous disciplinary training with interdisciplinary research methods that more accurately explain the complexity of Latinx peoples.

We are involved with multiple ongoing collaborative research projects and host several workshops and lectures each year, bringing in speakers from across the country and world. The focus of our diverse research initiatives is on communities and expanding the scope Latino studies as a discipline.

Our mission is to empower individuals with skills and concepts to better understand Latinx communities; to advance innovative research and scholarship on Latinx cultures, histories, and social conditions; and to engage students, scholars, and the larger community in collaborative projects, civic programs, and service-learning.
