Cien Años de Celia Cruz: A Celebration of Life and Music

This multi-day celebration of Celia Cruz centers on her many contributions to music and culture. Born on October 21, 1925 in Cuba, Cruz became an integral voice for the promotion of popular musical genres like the guaracha, son, and salsa in the United States and beyond. She is famous for singing with the Sonora Matancera and Fania All-Stars.

Honored with Grammy awards, an U.S. quarter, and a Barbie, her important work as a performer and professional makes her a significant historical figure to revisit. Events on campus will feature “The Queen of Salsa” in film showings, lectures, exhibits, and a special musical and dance performance on First Thursday. We invite everyone to join us in learning about the life and legacy of Celia Cruz!
